THE DETAILS

  • More than 450,000 student-athletes participate in 23 sports at more than 1,100 colleges and universities!
  • 346 active Division I members,
  • 291 active Division II members,
  • 439 active Division III members
  • Colleges and universities in Divisions I and II may offer athletic scholarships, while Division II colleges and universities may not.
  • You must have a 2.3 GPA or you will not qualify to participate as an NCAA college athlete.
  • There is a $70 registration fee for US and Canadian students, and a $120 fee for international students.




TIMELINE

As a Freshman or a Sophomore...

  • Work hard to get the best grades possible!
  • Make sure your classes match your high school's List of NCAA Courses (these are available at www.eligibilitycenter.org.
  • At the beginning of your sophomore year, complete your online registration at www.eligibilitycenter.org.
As a Junior...
  • Register to take the ACT, SAT or both and use the NCAA Eligibility Center code "9999" as a score recipient.  This will send your score directly to the NCAA.
  • Continue to take college-preparatory courses.  Work hard to get the best grades possible.
  • As your high school counselor to send an official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center after completing your junior year.  If you have attended more than one high school, the NCAA will need official transcripts from each school you attended.
As a Senior...
  • Take the ACT and/or SAT again, if necessary.
  • Continue to take college-preparatory courses. Work hard to get the best grades possible.
  • Review your amateurism responses and request final amateurism certification on or after April 1 (for fall enrollment) or October 1 (spring enrollment).
  • Graduate on time (in eight academic semesters).
  • After graduation, ask your high school counselor to send your final transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center with proof of graduation.
  • Certification will only be performed for student-athletes placed on an NCAA Division I or II institution's request list.
