Erskine College Athletic Training Camp

Summer Internship Opportunity with Bel-Aire

Bel-Aire Community Inner-City Summer Camp is looking for about 15 interns to work with them this summer in the following positions:

1. Kids' Younger Camp (1st-5th grades) - 5 interns

• Meets at 28 Seth Street which has the basketball court and more rooms - pretty much having Vacation Bible School, crafts, etc. all summer.  They will also have their own field trips and special events.
• When Camp is over each day, these interns will plan for the next day, assist staff, and/or join the other interns at Older Camp when needed.
• Part-time intern positions are also available with younger camp if there are openings.

2. Kids' Older Camp (6th grade and up) - 5 interns

• Meets at 38 Seth Street in the conference room for guest speakers, small group Bible studies, etc. and will have 28 Seth Street facility after 1:00 pm.  
• We will be taking older kids away for a weekend retreat this year and more one-on-one time will be stressed (pairing kids/interns that click together).

3. Community Development Team - 5 interns

• These interns will help organize and manage the volunteers working with Bel-Aire over the summer.
• Labor skills are preferred, but not required, as the goal is that most of the work is done by the volunteers while our interns supervise that work as they work alongside each team.
• The work will be done on Tuesday through Friday.  Mondays will be spent planning work for the week and talking with neighbors.  

The summer schedule will be as follows:

• Intern training/camp planning starts on Monday, May 18th or one week after interns get out of school (whichever comes later).
• Camp begins Friday, June 5th and ends Friday, August 12th (9 1/2 weeks)
•  Both camps run Monday through Friday.
• Interns meet to plan and pray at 8:00 am.  Kids are picked up at 9:00 am.  Younger Camp ends at 1:00 pm, Older Camp ends at 4:00 pm.  
• Both camps will have at least one outing a week including the zoo/picnic, Greenville Drive baseball game, whitewater rafting, camping, hiking, rock climbing, and possibly Six Flags.  Older kids will have at least one job/career day outing to a plant or local business.  All kids will have community service hours to complete as part of being involved in camp.

Intern Specifics

• Interns are asked to raise their own salary of $2,500 and will be paid 100% of the amount raised, up to $2,500.
• Two weeks of training will be conducted prior to camp starting.  
• All interns will be given a one week vacation during the summer.

Academic Outreach Camp

The University of South Carolina Upstate, BMW Manufacturing in Greer, and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System are teaming up for an Academic Outreach Camp to introduce students to exciting and real world applications of mathematics, statistics, and physics.

The camp will emphasize how mathematics and science are used to improve the processes to build things like BMW vehicles and how other industries and organizations, such as healthcare, finance and the armed forces, use similar processes and tools.  In addition to honing and improving team work and leadership skills, students will gain hands-on experience in learning and applying Lean and Six Sigma tools to computerized challenges, physical simulations, case studies, and teaching games.  An in-depth tour of BMW's manufacturing facility and USC-Upstate's Healthcare Simulation Center are included.  Students will also have a chance to improve their driving skills behind the wheel of a BMW vehicle at the BMW Performance Center.

The Academic Outreach Camp will be held June 15-19 and June 22-26, 2015, at USC-Upstate's George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Business and Economics in downtown Spartanburg.  Participants will be required to attend both weeks.  Students must be rising seniors at the time of application and must apply online at www.uscupstate.edu/bmwcamp.  The camp is free; lunch and snacks will be provided.  The deadline for applications is March 16, 2015.

Summer Program: 2014 Emory Pre-College Program

Discover College Life This Summer!

The Emory Pre-College Program gives rising juniors and seniors in high school an exciting glimpse of academic and residential life at a top-ranked national university.  High school students may enroll in classes with college students, earn transferable college credit, and explore topics with professors who are the leading experts in their fields.  

Students live away from home and experience the independence and responsibility of college life in a safe, secure, and supervised environment.  Students live together in an air-conditioned residence hall on the main Emory campus.  Experienced residence life staff provide supervision and help students make the most of their summer academic experience. 

Credit Courses (six weeks)

• Session 1: May 19-June 27 (commuter only)
• Session 2: June 29-August 9 (residential and commuter)

Non-Credit Courses (two and three weeks)

• Session A: June 29-July 12 (residential and commuter)

Summer Programs: South Carolina Business Week

Are you interested in going into business?  This might be the summer program opportunity for you!  And it's FREE!  South Carolina Business Week is the premier youth program of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.  The timely and customized curriculum encourages participants to excel as individuals while becoming integral team players.  Learn skills from leaders in business, education and government; CEOs from some of South Carolina's largest corporations; and experts in economics, diversity, communications, international business, management, and research and development.

BONUS
Each year, South Carolina Business Week presents four college scholarships totaling $12,000 to deserving students.  The scholarships are: the S. Hunter Howard, Jr. Business Week Scholarship ($5,000), the Ron McNair Leadership Scholarship ($3,000), the Rawl Family Scholarship ($2,000), and the Chelse Ward Elliott Scholarship ($2,000).  Students who receive one of the first three scholarships must attend an in-state college or university in order to receive the scholarship money.  Students are required to submit a separate scholarship application, which will be mailed to them once they are accepted into the South Carolina Business Week program.

Summer Program: Emerging Public Leaders

Are you a rising senior in high school and interested in getting involved and making a difference in the world?  The Emerging Public Leaders program might be for you!  And it's FREE!  This exciting and innovative program features sessions with local, state, and national governmental leaders as well as members of the faculty of Furman's Department of Political Science.  Students attend lectures, participate in off-campus trips, and interact with speakers and faculty individually and in small-group sessions.  Campus lectures and special sessions will address topics such as community activism, working with the media, international politics, and issues surrounding poverty.  Throughout the week, each student also participates in activities and workshops designed to help them identify a problem or need in their own community and to develop a student-led project addressing this problem or need.

Summer Programs @ Stanford

Summer Institutes
At Summer Institutes, students ages 14-17 will engage in a 3-4 week intensive study single-subject courses with instructors and peers who share their talents, passions, and interests.  Coursework is tightly integrated with the social experience in academically themed houses.  Courses in areas ranging from biotechnology to entrepreneurship and creative writing are customized to give students deep exposure and hands-on experience.

Summer College
At Summer College, students from around the world ages 16-19 will choose from more than 125 college courses in 30 academic departments, earning undergraduate course credit and an official Stanford University transcript.  Students in the residential and the commuting Summer College programs credit their own course schedules and experience what life is like as undergraduate students at Stanford.
